The incident happened on Saturday, Feb. 11 around 4:45 a.m., when police in the city of Rye responded to the Courtyard Marriott located at 631 Midland Ave. for a reported robbery.

Upon arriving, the hotel's front desk agent told officers that a man had entered the hotel around 4:40 a.m. and had demanded money from the register. The agent added that the suspect had his hand in his pocket during the robbery, leading her to believe that he had a gun.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Suffolk County resident Jose Nieves of Brentwood, then fled the hotel with around $250, police said.

After a three-week investigation, Nieves was identified and a warrant for his arrest was filed.

During this period, Nieves was taken into custody by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office after allegedly robbing a Gulf gas station in Southeast located at 1565 Route 22 at gunpoint on Wednesday, March 1, and then leading police on a multi-county chase in Westchester County.

After this chase, Nieves was finally caught in Harrison and was arrested after trying to fight Westchester County PD officers. He was then turned over to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and reminded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility.

After his arrest by Rye officers for the hotel robbery on Tuesday, March 14, Nieves was transported from Putnam County to Rye for processing and was arraigned in Rye City Court. He was then taken back to the Putnam County Correctional Facility.

Nieves is charged with third-degree robbery in connection with the Rye incident along with a host of other charges in connection with the Southeast robbery.
